GISELLE

Type specimen book design

Giselle is a type specimen book for the Centennial font family, and features five different styles– 55 Roman, 56 Italic, 75 Bold, 76 Bold Italic, and 95 Black. For each style, the letterforms, punctuation, alignment, and scale are displayed.

Adrian Frutiger is the creator of the Linotype Centennial font family, which was inspired by the very similar font, Century, designed in the 1800s. To pay homage to its origin, designs in the book were hand-drawn with charcoal and painted using watercolor. To tie these classic materials in with a colorful, sleek design, movement lines were drawn in Procreate.

This book appeals to an older audience of ballet-enthusiasts, and those interested in classical arts or designers by telling the story of Giselle in a concise, entertaining book that also exhibits a detailed overview of the Centennial font family.
